Donna HUTTNER Obituary

HUTTNER, Donna
What more can be said than the world lost a very special person when Donna Huttner died on Saturday, January 4, 2014. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and friend. Donna was born in 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to George and Laura Naumoff. The daughter of a Macedonian and Swede, she enjoyed a rich cultural experience - central to it was family and food. After high school Donna joined the Cadet Nursing Corp and received her degree from the University of Minnesota.

Early in her Nursing career she met her husband Orville Huttner, a patient at the Veterans Hospital. He won her heart and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage that produced 6 children. They moved to Texas and then to California in 1962 where Donna established the home that was the central hub of her family. Her talent and love of cooking made her kitchen the focal point.

Donna dedicated her life to service. She enjoyed a 20 year nursing career at Mercy General Hospital and was an active member of the Retired Nurses. She was a 50 year member of the Swedish organization, Sierra Kronan, Lodge #737. She held various offices and enjoyed attending all Swedish events and conferences. A talented artist, she spearheaded the lodges crafting efforts for the annual Swedish Festival. A spirited organizer, Donna enjoyed planning, shopping and cooking for lodge events. More importantly, Donna loved people and cherished every friendship she made throughout her life.

One of her other great pleasures was traveling around the states in her motor home, and visiting other countries. Raising 6 kids gave her a unique ability to make trips seem effortless and fun. Family and friends have many fond memories of our travels with her and will forever remember the good luck of white horses and haystacks.

More than anything Donna loved her family and we will always cherish her. She was preceded in death by her husband and she will be greatly missed by her children, Cathy (Ric), Susanne, Kevin (Karen), Patricia (Bruce), Mary (Janet) and Donna (Dave), and many grandkids and great grandkids.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. Lawrence Church, 4325 Don Julio Blvd. North Highlands. A Rosary will be held at 10:00 am and the funeral Mass following at 10:30 am. Private interment at Calvary Cemetery.

Susanne, I am so sorry for your lose. My mother, who truly loved working with your mother at Mercy hospital, passed this past October. Whenever I think back to my childhood in North Highlands, my memories always include you and your family. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

So sad to hear of your mom's passing. One summer afternoon in 1966 while we were all outside skating and playing, I was coloring. Your mom was watching me and showed me how to color "outside the lines". I don't think she realized at the time what she was doing. Throughout my life I have been one to "color outside the lines". I give her credit for that; that one simple thing she showed me. I always thought she looked like a young Queen Elizabeth, very pretty. She will be missed.
