Dorsey Frederick Davy passed away on November 17, 2011, in Carmichael, California, at age 89, due to complications of hip replacement surgery. Dorsey was born in Burlington, North Dakota in 1922, and grew up on the farm of his parents, Don H. and Anna Moyer Davy. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Dorsey earned a B.S. degree from Jamestown College, and began his career teaching high school math and science. In 1954, he earned a Master of Agriculture degree from Oregon State University and pursued a career in agricultural education. Starting in 1959, he attended the University of California at Berkeley, from which he earned a Doctorate of Education. Dorsey then joined the faculty of University of California at Davis, helping to establish UCD's first general teacher education program. In 1964, Dorsey became Program Leader for the University of Chicago/Ford Foundation Pakistan Education Project, which introduced the comprehensive high school to East Bengal, a program that was adopted nationally. With Ford Foundation in Lahore, Pakistan Dorsey was part of a team implementing the "Green Revolution" that dramatically increased food production in Pakistan. After returning to the Bay Area in 1970, Dorsey was Associate Professor, Director of Teacher Education, and Director of International Programs at the University of San Francisco. In 1979, he became a university administrator at San Francisco State University. Dorsey returned to Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1982 with the International Agricultural Development Service to manage a scholarship and in-service staff development program for agricultural scientists. He retired to Santa Rosa, California in 1985 and moved to Carmichael in 1998. Dorsey was an energetic and tireless worker, a good and loyal friend, and a popular instructor and caring mentor to his many students. He is survived by sons Donn Davy (Nancy) of Novato, Douglas Davy (Mary) of Carmichael, and Steve Davy (Claudia) of Oakland and by grandchildren Gianna Davy (Gabriel) of Healdsburg, Daniel Davy of Novato, Claire Davy of Berkeley, and Brian Davy of San Francisco.
