Ira S. Carter passed from this world on July 14th at Eskaton Village in Carmichael. Ira was born on August 4th, 1930 in Oakland, CA to Emma and Ira Carter, Sr. He was known as 'Big I' to his friends and after graduating from high School, he moved to Sacramento to attend Grant Technical College. It was here that he met the love of his life, Lois Jane Fuller. Lois and Ira were married on August 18th, 1951. After Ira returned from his tour of duty as a Marine in Korea, the couple settled in Carmichael and started raising a family. Ira was a school business administrator. During his career he was the Assistant Superintendent of Business for Grant Union Joint School District and Vice Chancellor for Los Rios Community College District. He was active in CASBO serving as president. Upon retirement, he continued to work as a consultant for school districts throughout the state. Outside of work, Dad's big passions were local sports, go Kings and A's, fishing, and working in his vineyard in Calistoga. He was especially proud of the wine made from his Cabernet and Zinfandel grapes. Ira was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lois, and baby daughter Cynthia Lynn. He is survived by his Sister-in-law Mardel Fuller and her children, and sons Steve (Suzi) and Richard, and daughter Pati (Steve) Smith. There are five grandchildren, Sadie, Spencer, Justin, Roseann, and Alex and three great-grand-children, Maezy, Clara, and Luke. The family would like to recognize the help given from Vitas Hospice and thank the staff in Memory Care at Eskaton Village. They were universally kind and understanding with Dad in his final years. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 22nd at 2:00pm at Christ Community Church located at 5025 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael. Our thoughts of Ira: A warm and charismatic leader in the educational world; A supportive and respected boss of many; A dear friend that always made those around him feel very special; And we are so very fortunate to have been included in a small part of Lois and his life.

What a"swell" man. I was introduced to Ira and Lois by son Steve back in 1976. I was immediately welcomed like a family member. It was obvious how much he loved Lois and his family. I have many wonderful memories of time spent with both Ira and Lois. I wish his family and many friends peace as they miss his presence, but cherish and hold on to all their fond memories of him.
