James Hallsted

James Harold Hallsted, 80, of Sacramento, died Wednesday, June 22nd. He was born to Clarence and Matilda Hallsted, July 26, 1930, in Bisbee, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Stella Hallsted, and his children, Richard Hallsted and Pam Mayerfeld of Palo Alto; Michael of Sacramento; David of Berkeley; Dawna of St. Charles, Missouri; Steve of Sacramento; Sandra Hallsted and Nilesh Solanki of Sacramento. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Kristin and Kimberley Hallsted of Palo Alto; Jon and Ben Hallsted of Berkeley; Charles and James Cuny of St. Charles, Missouri; and Meera Solanki of Sacramento. Jim graduated from Bisbee High School in Arizona in 1949. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering at University of Arizona and his MBA at National University. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Jim was a Mining and Geological Process Engineer for Owens-Illinois sand plant for 37 years. His job included extensive travel to Europe, Asia, South and North America. He was a volunteer Boy Scout leader and Little League coach for 17 years. He was an active member of St. Peter Parish of Sacramento for 20 years. Jim loved playing card games and dominoes, golfing, and making chocolate chip pancakes for his grandkids. Rosary will be Thursday, June 30, 5:30pm at St. Peter Church. Funeral mass will be on Friday, July 1, 12 noon at St. Peter Church, 6210 McMahon Drive, Sacramento, California. Private burial will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of James Hallsted to St. Vincent de Paul at 5864 55th Street, Sacramento, CA 95824.
