Joseph (Tod) Santos, age 80, died on Sunday, September 30, 2012, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born April 6, 1932, in Hughson, CA to the late Manuel and Serafina Santos. Tod graduated from Oakdale High School in 1948. On September 12, 1953, he married Beverly Faulkner in Salinas, CA. Tod attended Modesto Junior College and graduated from University of California, Berkeley in 1954 with a B.S. in civil engineering. He then went to work for Division of Highways. In 1956 he transferred to the Department of Water Resources as a Professional Engineer. For the next 36 years with DWR, he worked on the California Aqueduct and oversaw the construction of the southern California hydraulic power plant system. Additionally, he worked on contract administration during his two years with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Tod loved to travel and visited all 50 state capitols, Washington, D.C. and also cruised to many foreign countries. He loved to go for walks with his dachshund pal, Barney. Tod believed in giving back to his community and was active in Auburn Kiwanis Club, SERS, and Placer Cal Alumni Club, where he served as past president. Tod is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly, his children and their spouses, Jeanne (John), Teri (Ken), Jocelyn (Phil), Becky (Don), and Mark (Lisa), 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Lassila Funeral Chapel, 551 Grass Valley Highway (Hwy 49), Auburn, on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 11:15 a.m. Visitation will be available from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. preceding services. Private interment will be at New Auburn Cemetery. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Kiwanis Family House, 2875 50th Street, Sacramento, CA 95817, in honor of Tod Santos.
