Together Again

Emma (also known as Dolly or Kay) passed away at the age of 89; Leslie passed away at the age of 96. Emma was born in Fresno, California September 17, 1921 to John & Elizabeth Guetling. She grew up in Merced, California. Leslie was born in San Francisco, California December 14, 1916; to Einar & Ellen Carlson. His family moved to Merced when he was a baby and that is where he grew up. They met while Emma was still in high school and went together for two years; they were married on July 28, 1940. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and brother Alfred Guetling of Sacramento, CA. Emma and Leslie had been married 70 years, when Emma passed away. The only time they were apart was when Leslie was stationed away from home during World War 2. Leslie served in the Navy as an instructor in Norman, Oklahoma for the duration of the War. They moved to Kirkland, Washington in 1950; where Leslie began a career as a carpenter. Emma worked for the telephone company; and later worked as a bookkeeper. Emma retired from Redmond General Insurance Company where she was a bookkeeper for many years. Leslie was preceded in death by Emma his wife, father, mother Ellen Carlson Griffin and his brother Roy Carlson of Bellevue, WA. Les retired from Burnstead Construction where he was a Superintendent, he had worked for Dave Cahill for many years prior to working for Burnstead. They moved to Arlington, WA in 2004; where they resided till their passing. Dad and Mom were devoted to one another all their life; it was a great loss to Leslie when he lost Emma. They leave behind three children Leslie E. (Susan Hart) Carlson, Dennis V. (Monika) Carlson and Kathy A. (Wesley) McGee; 7 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. They are deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers please donate to or Mom's favorite charity- American Institute for Cancer Research or Dad's favorite charity The Veterans of Foreign Wars.
We would also like to thank Jeri and Hannah of Evergreen Hospice for all their care and help with Dad and Dr Whiteley and his assistant Ellen for all their time and care for both Leslie and Emma over the years.
