FLORES, Maria Elena
Maria Elena Flores, born in Mexico on July 21, 1927 to Felicitas and Pedro Hernandez, passed away on December 21, 2012 at her home in Elk Grove, California. She is survived by three sons, Jose Chavez of Livermore, California, Oscar Flores of Oakland, California and Enrique Flores (and daughter-in-law Victoria Flores) of Sacramento, California; two daughters, Belen Flores of Oakland, California and Sylvia Mongomery (and son-in-law Mark Montgomery) of Elk Grove, California; and five grandchildren, Nicholas Montgomery, Eric Montgomery, Mitchell Montgomery, Emilia Flores and Elise Flores.
Maria grew up in Mexico in a family of seven. She attended school in Santa Anna, Chihuahua, Mexico. She met her future husband and prior schoolmate, Enrique, at a fruit market in Chihuahua, Chihuahua and the couple were married on December 26, 1960. The Flores family moved from Chihuahua, Chihuahua to Animas, New Mexico in 1961, where Enrique worked as a foreman on a ranch. The family briefly lived in Silver City and Deming, New Mexico and then moved to Livermore, California in 1967. The family made a home in Livermore with children attending school there and eventually pursuing career aims while Enrique worked at a wire factory in Union City and Maria provided a well cared home environment. With the birth of their first grandchild, Maria and Enrique moved to Sacramento, California in 1990. Maria became a loving daycare provider to her grandchildren. Enrique passed on in 1995 and in 1997 Maria joined her daughter Sylvia's family in Elk Grove where she brought her loving home making skills to a new home.
Maria provided love and support to her family and friends throughout her life. She was always caring and considerate and her polite manners left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a great cook, bringing the staples of Mexican cooking to her family and friends, and she had a special touch with gardening and growing plants, She will join her husband, Enrique Flores, at East Lawn Memorial Park in Elk Grove. A memorial service is being held at Fast Lawn Memorial Park chapel, 9189 East Stockton Blvd, Elk Grove, on December 26, 2012 at 10 am.
