Patricia "Pat" Pashby passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 21, 2016. She was born on Christmas Day in 1931 to Stephen and Laura Bodor in Lynn, MA. She married Charles Pashby in 1953, had five children, and lived in Frederick, MD; Utica, NY; Santa Barbara, CA; and Lafayette, CA. After her divorce and with three children still at home, Pat began work as a Pacific Bell operator, which led to a 25-year career as an operator services manager for AT&T, including stints in the Bay Area, Modesto and Reno. She retired in Sacramento and recently moved to Vacaville. She loved to travel and enjoyed visits to many towns and cities throughout the U.S. and the world, including memorable trips to Europe, Asia and South America. Books were also a passion: Her first job was in a library, and she was a lifelong reader of fiction and nonfiction, especially philosophy, poetry, essays, and (later in life) novels. A published poet, she shared her perspectives on nature and life through lovely, insightful poems. She had a keen appreciation of natural beauty, a green thumb, and was known for her ability to transform ordinary yards into lovely oases of trees and flowers. Her deep love of the ocean began in New England and was instilled in all of her children through their many trips to California beaches (Santa Barbara and Aptos among her favorites). An animal lover, she shared her home over the years with many beloved dogs and cats, including her current kitty Pixie. She loved sports and was a devoted San Francisco Giants fan since 1966, enjoying many family gatherings out at the ballpark, and even traveling to spring training in Arizona twice in recent years. Pat will be missed terribly and remembered for her independent spirit, curious mind, sense of fun and adventure, witty commentary, "festive fudge" (and other holiday treats), devoted and generous parenting (and grand-parenting!), great advice, encouragement of others to follow their dreams, and the courage to speak her mind, follow her heart, and live a life of joy on her own terms. She is survived by partner Don Feliz of Vacaville; sister Laura Corbett of Danvers, MA; son Steve (Connie) of Pleasant Hill; daughter Ellen of Scappoose, OR; son John of San Francisco; daughter Trish of Eugene, OR; and daughter Paula (Al Alvarado) of Vacaville. She also leaves behind beloved grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Steve Bodor. The family offers their most sincere gratitude to the wonderful people of Kaiser Hospice Solano County and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cancer Support Group. Per Pat's request, there will be no service. Donations in her memory can be made to the
American Cancer Society or Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary.
