FLANDRENA, Robert James
Died April 7, 2013 at the age of 91. A devout parishioner of St. Mel Catholic Church in Fair Oaks, Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Marion; children Bob Jr. (Dani), Jan Blakeslee (Gene), Connie Powell, and Tom; grandchildren Jennifer DaSilva (Roger), Jacy Bosworth, Robby Powell (Jenn); great-grandchildren Jaden, Brooks, Braxton and London Bosworth, and Drake DaSilva; as well as sisters Mary Kay Bertagnoli and Joan Motes. Born on April 5, 1922 to Mildred and Jim Flandrena in Hurley, Wisconsin, Bob graduated from Marquette University in 1948 after serving as a crash boat skipper for the U.S. Navy during World War II. He brought his bride, Marion, to California in 1949. They raised their 4 children in Fair Oaks. Bob worked for Aerojet General for 26 years before retiring in 1984. In retirement, he enjoyed taking care of his yard, automobiles, and home (especially the roof), as well as cheering for his beloved Green Bay Packers. In 2005, Marion and Bob moved to Eskaton Village in Carmichael. Friends are welcome for visitation Wednesday, April 10, from 4-8PM and to attend the Holy Rosary at 6PM, all at PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL (6335 Sunrise Blvd., 725-2109). The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 11, 11AM at ST. MEL CATHOLIC CHURCH (4745 Pennsylvania Ave, Fair Oaks) with burial at Fair Oaks Cemetery and reception at St. Mel Parish Center immediately following. A man of few words but many kind deeds, including countless donations of blood to the Sacramento Blood Bank, Bob will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mel Catholic School (4745 Pennsylvania Ave., Fair Oaks, CA 95628) or Jesuit High School Scholarship Program (P.O. Box 254647, Sacramento, CA 95865).
