POMEROY, Eltweed G.
'Pom'
Born July 26, 1923, Eltweed G. 'Pom' Pomeroy, passed away on April 11, 2012. Pom was an 80-year Sacramento resident and 1941 graduate of Sacramento High School. Pom enjoyed nature and worked in the Sierras in high school as a Boy Scout camp counselor, becoming an Eagle Scout. Pom attended Sacramento Junior College and joined the Navy in 1943, training at the University of Texas before assignment to the SeaBees in the Pacific from 1945-46. Pom completed his degree at UT in 1947, then spent a summer touring National Parks with Navy buddies in a '39 LaSalle convertible before settling down for a 41-year career in the Bridge Division of Caltrans. Pom also served 20 years as a Naval Reserve Officer. Pom was a lifelong Sierra Club member and stamp collector who corresponded with other collectors on every continent. Pom was also active in the Sons of the American Revolution. Pom is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Carolyn Christian Pomeroy, who passed away in 2007. Pom and Carolyn enjoyed folk, square, and Scottish dancing, camping, and gardening. Pom is survived by daughter Kathy of Carmel, and son Doug, his wife Donna, and grandson Kevin of El Granada. Service at First United Methodist Church, 2100 J Street, Sacramento at 1 PM on May 26. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the church or The Nature Conservancy.
