Virginia McClain McDonald, a resident of the Sacramento region for nearly 80 years, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2012. Born in Fresno in 1921, she moved with her family first to Santa Barbara and then in 1933 to Courtland, where her family farmed pears. She graduated from Courtland High School in 1939 and attended Sacramento City College. She was predeceased by her siblings, Robert Earl, Donald Cameron and Esther (Betty) Marie McClain. In 1945 she married and raised three sons, Robert Earl Chase, Keith Craig McDonald and Alan David McDonald. She has five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a dedicated community volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and Sacramento Society for the Blind, where she served as a Braille transcriber for many years in the area of mathematics. She spent many dedicated years in the transcription of college level Braille textbooks. She enjoyed playing the classical guitar, as well as her antique pump organ, which she refurbished. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver, a passion she continued until near her death. No services will be held at her request. Any remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army, the Sacramento Society for the Blind or National Public Radio, which she listened to throughout her life..
