Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Antje Klopsch passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, with the grace with which she lived her life, loving her growing family so dearly. Antje will be greatly missed by her husband of over 52 years, Hans Klopsch; children Peter, Karen (Dale Rinde), and Norbert (Debbie Kirschman); seven grandchildren: Craig (Alexandra), Brandon, Chad (Amanda), Bryan (Jenna), Brooke (Ben Shearer), Beth, and Tyler; brother-in-law Karl Klopsch (Melinda).
Born August 30, 1931 in Westerbuttel, northern Germany, she came to the United States in 1958. Her intention was to live and work in this country for several years and then return to her parents to assist them in their family business, a country inn. Her plans changed when she met Hans Klopsch at a family gathering in San Francisco. Hans was also an immigrant from Germany who had been living in Sacramento since 1950. Hans and Antje married in 1959 and the happy couple settled in Fair Oaks, close to Hans' work at Aerojet. In 1965 they joined Orangevale's Christ the King Lutheran Church where they practiced their Christian faith and found much spiritual support and love.
Antje was a modest and humble person, striving to serve others whenever she could. She was especially fond of children. Her grandchildren remember the yummy chocolate cakes she always made for their birthdays and her German apple pancakes. She was also known for her Christmas Lebkuchen, which she shared with friends and neighbors. For many years one of Antje's joys was to grow flowers and take them to elderly and sick people in nursing homes. Antje's friendly ways and smiling face endeared her to the many people she met.
She is survived in Germany by her sister, Gerda Kroeger, nephew, Ralf Kroeger, as well as several cousins. In the San Francisco Bay area she is survived by her cousins, Annemarie Hellmann (Rolf) and Antje Kunney (Ernest).
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 18th at 11 am at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 5811 Walnut Avenue, Orangevale, CA. A reception immediately follows. Interment will be private at the Fair Oaks Cemetery.
Donations can be made in Antje's name to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 5811 Walnut Avenue, Orangevale, CA 95662.
