MELODY, Robert Lawrence
'Dear Old Dad'
Age 87 years. Born August 1, 1924 in San Francisco, CA. Passed away June 14, 2012 in Sacramento, CA surrounded by his loving family. Growing up in the Bay Area, he attended the University of San Francisco. He served in WWII at Camp Roberts as a Military Policeman and security for the base. He devoted over 30 years to the California Department of Rehabilitation as an administrator. His love of travel took him and his entire family to numerous locations around the world, but mostly he enjoyed taking his grandkids, Jillian and Jacquelyn Jones, and Taylor, Trevor, Alexis, and Christian Melody on cruises to Alaska, relaxing on Maui, and BBQs around the pool at home. He married Vivian Murphy in 1951 and they were blessed with three children: Robert, Jeannie (Gene), and Stephen (Desiree). He is also survived by his sister Mary Palmer of Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. George Melody of San Francisco. Robert was an avid reader, gardener, handyman, and ace mechanic. He was affectionately called 'Mr. Fix-it.' He will be sadly missed. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 660 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA. Arrangements by George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers.
