Verna M. Corrigan, born in Eland WS, October 21st, 1923, passed away peacefully at her home in Davis, CA on June 15th, 2012. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Daniel J. Corrigan, her children: Daniel Corrigan, Nancy Donlon, Janet Allen, and David Corrigan. Verna was a grandmother to Angela, Erin, Sarah, Scott, Daniel, Kelly, and the late Jenny Donlon. Verna was also a great grandmother to Alexis, Luke, Ryland, Reilly, Daniel and Aubrey. Verna was preceded in death by her parents Royal and Linnie Meverden, her brother Merville and her sister Loretta. She is survived by her sister Leone. Verna graduated from Birnamwood High School and went on to get a teaching credential from Stevens Point College. She started her teaching career teaching in a one room school, with multiple grades in rural Wisconsin. When World War II broke out, Verna moved to Milwaukee to work in a submarine battery factory. With her education, she supervised a crew making batteries for the war effort. After the war ended, Verna wanted to see more of the world and travelled to Yellowstone National Park. Verna worked as a waitress through the summer as she waited to move on to a teaching job in Tulare. After all the hard work that she had done in her life, this time in Yellowstone was some of the most fun she had ever had to that point. Verna moved to Tulare in 1946 to start her teaching career. There she met Lee Nalbandian, who along with her husband Mike became lifelong friends. Verna volunteered to do a children's radio show on the local radio station. She soon met her future husband Dan Corrigan over a turntable in the broadcast booth. Dan would often say that they have been going around together ever since. Seven months later they married in Birnamwood Wisconsin. They returned to Tulare to begin their life together where they soon were blessed with the births of their first two children Dan and Nancy. Dan and Verna soon moved to South San Francisco to go to school. Both Dan and Verna worked very hard during this time. Both worked full time, went to school, raised their family and added Janet as their third child. Verna earned her Bachelors degree from San Francisco State while Dan earned his DDS from University of California. This was also the time they met their life long friends, Mel and Jean Frank. After graduation, the family moved to San Jose to start a dental practice. Verna worked with Dan in the dental practice and their fourth child David was born. After helping start the dental practice, Verna returned to her love of teaching, where she specialized in reading and writing. On top of holding a job, Verna also provided for her children, making sure that they were loved, well taken care of and educated. A number of years later, the family moved to Davis so Dan could take a job with the State of California. Verna returned to teaching in West Sacramento. After Dan left the state, Verna retired from teaching and helped Dan with a Seminar business. During this time they had fun traveling to many seminar destinations. Verna went on to help with establishing three more businesses with Dan. Including another dental practice where she met another life long friend Wendy Joyce and her family. During these later years, Dan and Verna traveled to many destinations, Europe, Russia, and Asia. They often took these trips with their dear friends Mel and Jean or with Verna's brother Merville and his wife Lucille. Late in life, Verna suffered through multiple medical conditions. She always faced everything with courage and resolve. Right to the end, she never complained and always was more interested in what was happening in other people's lives. Verna's heart was always selfless and this is one thing that made her so loved. She was a great wife, mother, and friend. She will be missed by her husband, children and all who have known her. She was laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
