JOHNSON, Jerri Lynn
Jerri Lynn Johnson, age 58, passed away peacefully at home in Granite Bay, CA, on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, following a courageous two-year battle with a rare cancer.
Jerri is survived by her husband, Steve, her daughters Becky Rhoades (Kevin) of Rocklin, Tracy Novak (Mike) of Sacramento, her granddaughter, Heidi Rhoades, and her twin brother, Rich Hughes (Toni) of Tucson, AZ. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
She was born June 3, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and soon after was adopted along with her twin brother, Rich, to the late Dick and Jackie Hughes. The family moved west to San Mateo, California, in 1965. Jerri was a three-sport athlete at Hillsdale High School, Class of '72. She went on to attend the College of San Mateo and got her B.S. in Kinesiology at Cal State Hayward in 1976. On June 30, 1979, she married Steve Johnson and they went on to have two daughters, Becky and Tracy.
From 1995-2006, Jerri worked as a P.E. teacher at Bayside and Bowditch Middle Schools in the San Mateo-Foster City School District. She also spent time working as a medical assistant in dermatology. Her most favorite career of all was being a fantastic mother and role model for her daughters. She was involved in many activities in the community including the PTA, coaching, school activities, and cheered on the sideline of many soccer and softball games. Jerri continued to play soccer herself well into her 50's and participated in the 2005 World Masters Games in Canada where her team took home a bronze medal. After her girls left the nest, she enjoyed spending time with her husband going to Giants games and taking trips to National Parks.
A memorial service for Jerri will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 7th at the Maidu Community Center in Roseville with a reception to follow at her home in Granite Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sarcoma Alliance at sarcomaalliance.org or the Placer SPCA.
