GEYER, Sr., Vernon LeRoy
Vern passed away on July 6, 2012 in the evening with his wife Clio and daughter Debbie at his side.
Vern was born in North Platte Nebraska on Dec. 14, 1921 to Meda and Roy Geyer. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Clio, his son Fred W. Geyer of Auburn, his son Vernon, Jr., daughter Debra Thompson and son Dwayne Geyer of Cottage Grove, Or. He survived three children, Sharon, Edward and Kenneth Geyer. There are also two stepsons Charles Cowan of San Marcos, Texas and Kenneth Cowan of Bensenville, IL.
Vern has 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His Sister Vivian Bates lives in Houston, Texas and brother Leonard Geyer in North Platte, Nebraska. Vern grew up in North Platte as well as Las Lunas, and Albuquerque New Mexico where he met his first wife, Ellen Alcorn who preceded him in death in 1967.
He served in the Army for a short time during WWII. He moved his family to San Jose, California in 1949 and started working for the telephone company a short time later. He worked for Pacific Telephone for more than 36 years before retiring in 1981. He moved to Lincoln, California with his wife Clio in 1985 where he remained until his death.
During his time in Lincoln he and Clio joined the Sacramento Valley Live Steamers Organization in Rancho Cordova where he served as Train Master and 2 terms as Yard Master.
Services will be held at the Lassila Lincoln Funeral Home on Thursday, July 12, 2012 with viewing at 10 am and services at 11a.m. officiated by his grandson Kenneth Gever. Following the service will be refreshments in the reception room. The burial will be held at the Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose on Friday July 13, 2012 at 1pm.
