RHOADES, Henrietta

Henrietta Rhoades, 88, of Elk Grove, CA, was promoted to Heaven on July 30, 2012, in Elk Grove. She was born May 12, 1924, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She moved to Dallas, TX, as a young girl and attended Southern Methodist University before marrying her husband, Roy Rhoades, in 1943. Roy became a pastor and church planter, so they moved quite often, eventually coming to Reno in 1963 to start the Sierra Bible Church. They then moved to Sacramento and started Grace Evangelical Free Church before moving back to Reno to start the Mt. Rose Evangelical Free Church and eventually moved back to Sacramento. Roy died in 1984, and in 1988, Henrietta married Noel Rhoades (no relation), who preceded her in death.

During the many years that she served the Lord, Henrietta taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, lead women's Bible Studies, performed church secretarial duties, and was constantly sharing her faith with others. She was very active in her final church, Arcade Baptist, in Sacramento, where she was a deaconess and was involved in many church ministries. Through the years she inspired so many people with her beautiful soprano voice and incredible piano skills, which she used to honor her Lord.

Henrietta is survived by her children, Dusty Rhoades (Joan) of Reno, Connie Graham (Harlan) of Elk Grove, CA, Claudia Davis (Harley) of Elk Grove, CA, and Doug Rhoades (Dianne) of Reno; her step-daughter, Lynnette Purvis, of Sacramento; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. We love her and miss her so much, but are comforted in the knowledge that she is now with her Savior.

A memorial service will be held on August 18 at 1:00 p.m., at Elk Grove First Baptist Church (chapel), 8939 E. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made in Henrietta's name to the Christian ministry of your choice.
