LORDS, Marilou
July 24, 1945 - Aug. 23, 2012
Born in Michigan, raised in Southern Calif., Marilou died of heart failure during sleep in her home in Sacramento. Preceded in death by her son Tim, she is survived by her husband of 35 years, Larry; mother Betty, father Tom Gallagher and his wife Lou; sisters Sharon, Patty, and Linda; brothers Scott and Tommy. She is loved and missed by them and countless extended family members, true friends, and all those she touched.
Marilou's passion was first and foremost her love and guardianship of animals. Next was touching and brightening the life, or day, or moment of anyone she encountered. She displayed that passion through masterfully planned and meticulously executed hospitality, in her home or in her restaurant. She designed The Broiler Steakhouse and Gallaghers Irish Pub, created the menus and wine lists, and for 25 years greeted her guests with an incredible smile and soft touch before seating them and overseeing the experience with skills and high standards acquired many years before at The Dearborn Inn and Disney Land Hotel.
Her passion showed brightest when she slipped away into her private peaceful world with her paint horse Nuisance. But even there she could not hide her spirit. She shared Nuisance's carrots with his stall mates while she kissed noses; she shared her heart with Arlen, Heather and other horse folks who called her Mom and best friend.
If you were touched by Marilou you felt special and loved, and you will never forget her. There will be a celebration of her life, at her restaurant (The Broiler Steakhouse & Gallaghers Irish Pub corner of 12th & K Street) on September 1st, at 12 noon, and you are welcome. Cead mile failte.
Anyone wishing to, should send donations in lieu of flowers, to 'Grace Foundation' animal and horse rescue.
