
GROVE, Sylvia Lucille
Hawkins
Passed away September 8, 2012 at the age of 80. She was born January 17, 1932 in Gadsden, Alabama in Etowah County. Sylvia was the second child of Robert and Lucille Hawkins. Sylvia spent her formative years in Birmingham, Alabama and attended college at the University of Montevallo. Sylvia moved to New Orleans, LA where she worked for the YWCA. It was in New Orleans where she met and married Daniel A. Grove in 1956. Throughout her husband's career in the FBI they lived in Chicago, IL, San Francisco, CA, Silver Springs, MD, Hong Kong, Walnut Creek, CA and Sacramento, CA. Sylvia and Dan were married for 25 years. Sylvia has been a resident of Campus Commons in Sacramento for over 30 years. She was a volunteer at Kaiser Permanente, a docent in the Governor's Mansion tours, and a volunteer at Casa de Los Ninos. Sylvia is preceded in death by her brother Robert Hawkins and is survived by her sister, Harriett Hawkins Work. She is survived by three daughters, Amy Grove Stephens, Melissa Grove Payne and Laurie Grove Miller. She is also survived by her grandchildren Nicholas Daniel, Madeline Laurie, Daniel Burns and Patrick Grove. Sylvia will be missed for her giving heart, her excellent southern hospitality and cooking, and her love for her children. Sylvia attended Fremont Presbyterian Church and will be buried in Sulligent, Alabama through Otts Funeral Home, Sulligent, AL.
