CHAN, Joseph W.
Born in 1925 in Kwangtung, China, Joseph went home peacefully, with his family present, on September 9, 2012. His parents, Yung Gwo Chan and Jan Kao Chan, and his wife, Catherine J. Chan, preceded him in death. Survivors include sister-in-law, Mae Chan; step-mother-in-law, Jessie Jang; sons, Sanford J. Chan and Dr. Clifford J. Chan (spouse Lily); grandsons Gavin (spouse Annie) and Garett; cousins; a niece; and nephews. Joseph graduated from UC Berkeley in 1948, worked as an architect for Harry Devine and Leonard Stark, prior to working for the State of California in the Office of the State Architect and Cal Trans. Joseph was a member of the Chinese Grace Bible Church and Gideons International. He and his wife served in the American Red Cross for many years as Disaster Volunteers including 2 rotations in New York City immediately following the 9/11 disaster. The Chan family will honor Joseph with a private, family service. However, a visitation time will be open at Harry A. Nauman & Son, 4041 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822, (916) 452-6157 during the hours of 4-8pm on Friday, September 28, 2012. We want to thank all those who participated in his life, especially Kaiser Hospice and caregivers, Edith and Lou.
