Joseph George Schummer (Josef-Georg Schummer) Born into this world October 25th 1935 in Batschka Palanka, Yugoslavia, was delivered into the hands of our Lord in the early morning hours of December 1, 2012 with his wife and daughter at his side. He was a devoted husband and father, successful businessman and friend to many. Joseph immigrated to the United States with his family and worked hard, achieving the American Dream. Graduating with honors in 1955 from San Fernando High School in Southern California he joined the United States Army and was promoted to become a member of the Military Police. In 1963 he became the owner of the first of three successful businesses that he would be the proprietor of in his lifetime. In 1981 Joseph began his long battle with heart disease. He received the precious gift of a heart transplant on August 6th, 1997 giving him many more years of the life he fought so hard to keep. Joseph is survived by his wife of 44 years, Victoria Schummer of Roseville, daughter Erica Schummer of East Sacramento, daughter Debra Albright of Lake Elsinore, son Warren Schummer of Sherman Oaks, sisters Annemaria Schummer and Vera Tepper of Roseville, sisters-in-law Nancy (Lloyd) Frew of Sutherlin OR, Wanda Cummings of Paso Robles, Sandy Apodaca,Virginia (John) Gutierrez,Lori Grego, Jerry (Cheryl) Smith of Colorado, Dennis (Marilee) Smith of Manteca, four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Joseph is preceded in death by his father, Georg Schummer, Mother Susanna Krivonos, Step-Father Roman Krivonos, Sisters Elisabeth and Hildegard and Brother Martin, Mother-In-Law Carmella Cummings, brothers-in-law Lewis Balcom Cummings Jr. and Ronald Tepper. Visitation will be Thursday December 6th at Lambert Funeral Home in Roseville from 4:15 – 6:00 pm with a Rosary at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at St Rose Catholic Church in Roseville, Friday December 7th 2012 at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow at the family home. Joseph will be laid to rest, with Military Honors, at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, CA Saturday, December 8th at 1:00 PM.
