WALLACE, Virginia Ruth Conrad
Virginia Ruth Conrad Wallace, age 93, passed away peacefully at a local hospital on Thursday, November 29, 2012, with her loving family at her side. She was born on February 1, 1919, at Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Sacramento, California. She was the first of five children born to Andrew and Loretta Hartley. Over the years Bob, Al, Jim and Darlene were born.
She married Edgar Conrad on September 17, 1938, and had two children, Daryl and Janice. She was a homemaker then worked at the Sacramento Army Depot and later had a nursing career. Ed and Virginia enjoyed their retirement and the time spent with their four grandchildren. Edgar died in 1979.
In 1990, Virginia married Dr. Arthur F. Wallace, a widower and a longtime friend of the family. Arthur and Edgar were high school classmates in Dunsmuir, California, and both went on to graduate from UC Berkeley. Arthur and Virginia took several trips to visit family and friends, and to St. Louis to attend medical school class reunions. Arthur passed away in 1994.
Virginia loved to play the slot machines and bingo. It was amazing how lucky she was in both. Janice would take her once a month to Jackson Rancheria and would joke that she took her there to 'supplement her income.'
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister. She is survived by her son Daryl (Joan) Conrad of Auburn, Washington and daughter Janice (Don) Merrill of Sacramento; 4 grandchildren, Mark Conrad, Auburn, Washington; Susan (Lloyd) Mantilla, Renton, Washington; Connie (Robert) Tepner of Olivehurst, California and Scott Merrill of Sacramento. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Richard (Alexandria) Marques, Oliverhurst; Brandon Marques, Sacramento; Alex Mantilla and Katie Mantilla, Renton, Washington; and Christopher (Nicole) Tepner of Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. She was very excited and proud to be a great great-grandmother to Joseph Marques born October, 2011.
A private memorial service and celebration of her life will be held by family with interment at the Masonic Lawn Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to the
