FINNING, Bart Rains May 18, 1935 - August 26, 2014 Bart, the son of Margaret and Charles Finning, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the 26th. He was born and raised in Foresthill, CA and was a graduate of Foresthill Grammar School and Placer High School. Bart spent two years with the US Army in Germany and then worked as a heavy equipment mechanic on the Hell Hole and Oroville Dam Projects after he returned to the area. In 1968, Bart moved his family to British Columbia to work for his uncle's Caterpillar Tractor dealership. While in Canada, Bart enjoyed hunting, fishing, took up downhill skiing and learned to make wine. In 1978 he returned to the Auburn area to be close to family. After working briefly building logging roads for Bendix Corporation, Bart purchased Placer Motor Parts and several other NAPA auto parts stores in the Auburn area and ran them for 12 years, retiring in 1994. In 2006 Bart and his wife returned to the Foresthill Divide and built their retirement home on family property overlooking the American River Canyon. In his later years Bart enjoyed working with his chainsaw, his tractor, and working in his walnut orchard. He also became involved with the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund, spending hours fund raising and volunteering for the group. He had a lifelong love of animals and airplanes but was happiest working with his hands. Bart is survived by his wife Sharon, their children Bret Finning (Danny Duffle), Gayle Finning Streng (Phil), grand-daughters Sela and Zara Streng, his sister Patricia Ann Finning Wade, niece Kirsten Wade Bently (Brad), and her children Drew and Allison Bently. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer's Fund or to the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund.
