USAF (Ret) Major. Born July 13, 1933 in Indianapolis Indiana. He passed away December 23, 2009 in Roseville, California, at the age of 76. Preceded in death by parents Otto and Helen Scherer and brother Robert Scherer. Survived by sisters Barbara Wadley and Karen Britt of Indiana. Wife of 25 years, Barbara Scherer of Rancho Cordova. Loving father of 7 children, Jeanne Boss, Richard "Rick" Scherer, Laurie Smith, Sherry Rodacker, Kimberly Scherer, Randall ''Randy'' Scherer and Connie Scherer. 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dick joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and retired at Mather AFB in 1973. One of his many assignments included Laon France where he flew the B-57's as a triple rated navigator from 1955-1957. Dick was a Vietnam Veteran. Subsequent to his military career, he retired from the US Postal Service. He also owned and operated Cordova Tax Service. Dick touched many lives because of his compassion and generosity in helping other people. He will be greatly missed by many!
