Stan Bowers, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great great-grandfather passed peacefully at home on December 3, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was 78.
Stan was born on September 1, 1933 in Newton, Iowa. He married the love of his life on July 6, 1952, and together he and Barbara were blessed with 59 years of marriage, seven children, and more than 40 grandchildren.
Stan served in the United States Army and worked for Maytag as a Tool and Die Maker before moving his family to Citrus Heights, California in early 1960. He worked for Aerojet and Lawrence Radiation Lab before becoming a Deputy Sheriff with Sacramento County. Stan owned and operated his successful Sacramento based construction and demolition company Valley Construction Company for more than 45 years. He met many life-long friends through the Jim Beam Bottle Club, as well as the sheriff's department.
Stan was well known in his local community and will be remembered by many as the kind gentleman who loved to share prideful stories of his children, grandchildren, and vintage car collection. Stan was a member of Sacramento Valley Coin Club where he shared a passion for collecting coins with his son, daughter, and great grandson. Stan was also an experienced gardener who proudly provided the vegetables of his labor generously to friends and family.
Stan is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Bowers; son Steven Bowers (Kelly); daughters Pam Nichols, Cathy Grunwaldt, Vicki Johnson (Jack), Karen Prudhomme (Ron), Beth Scott, and Patti Bowers; brother and sisters, George Bowers, Dolores Flanders, Linda (Darrell) Zegers, Nora Jean (Allan) Shivily, and Lorraine (Kurt) Mueller; sister-in-law Virginia Bowers; and much extended family.
Stan was preceded in death by his father Richard Bowers; mother Nora Smith; mother and father in-laws Rose and Ewing 'Shorty' O'Bannon and Dale and Georgina Keith; brothers, Richard and Roger Bowers; sister Virginia (Melvin) Lee; brother-in-law Richard Keith; grandson Mathew Bowers; and great-grandson Marc Williams.
At Stan's request, no funeral services will be held. A memorial honoring his life may be held at a later date.
