DUNLAP, Verna Louise

Verna was born in Edison, Georgia and was raised on the farm her father managed, along with her older brother, Milton and sister, Ruby and younger brother, Sam. She attended high school and business school in Georgia. She met her first husband, James, an Army officer, in 1942. They established a home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and had three children: James, Beckham and Nina. She worked at a radio station, WEED. In 1957 she divorced and moved with the children to Sacramento where she worked as an executive secretary at Aerojet General Corp. for 27 years while raising her children as a single parent.
She married Paul Dunlap in 1967. After retirement, she and Paul traveled extensively around the country in their motor home, visiting friends and family in many states. Verna loved the Northern California coast. She and Paul were camp hosts at Bodega Dunes Camp Ground for several seasons.
Verna was very active in her church, Fair Oaks Presbyterian, where she worked as a volunteer in the office as well as attending services.
Verna was preceded in death by husband Paul, brothers Milton, Sam, sister Ruby, granddaughter April Frederick and son Beckham Kelly. She is survived by her daughter Nina Frederick and son James Kelly, and grandchildren Jessica Kelly, Gwyneth Kelly, Amanda Hauptman, Jay Kelly and great grandchildren, Austin, Brittney, Callie Hauptman & Gracie Mata.
