Barrett, Mstr Sgt Donald L.
Born in Shelburne, VT Sept. 9, 1931 to Louis and Dorothy Barrett. Passed on Feb. 13, 2013 after a 3-year battle with leukemia in Sacramento, surrounded by his family.
He was married in 2002 to Rita Miller after his first wife Simone Martel died in 1997 after 42 years of a happy marriage. They had two children Donna (Jamin) Martinez and Michael. He had two granddaughters Alexandria and Sierra. He is survived by His twin sister Dorothy Douros (Bill.)
His second family consists of a daughter Heidi and two sons Ricky and Bobby (Marie) and many grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by Louis and Dorothy Barrett, siblings Frank and Mary Theresa.
He was a high average bowler and belonged to The SIRS as well as VFW Post 10125. Don served as the Post Adjutant and was designated Veteran of the Year in various Veteran organizations including the V.A. Hospital, the Cordova Community Council and was District Chairman for the Buddy Poppy Program for many years. He was constantly volunteering at Meals on Wheels and the Cordova Food Locker.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him as a wonderful husband, great parent, a loving brother, best friend, loving grandfather a wise great-grandfather and just a good guy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Divine Savior Catholic Church. 9079 Greenback Lane. Orangevale, CA Tuesday Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Sacramento Memorial Lawn, 6100 Stockton Blvd. Sacramento, CA.
