Passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 in Carmichael CA at 12:35. She died of congestive heart failure. She was 94 years old. She was born Gladyce Lorraine Somerville in Chesley, North Dakota Jan. 15, 1919 and has resided in Sacramento since 1939. In Feb. of 1949 she married Dr. Erle Blunden who was a surgeon and helped found the American River Hospital here in Sacramento. He was killed Jan 17, 1964 when he crashed in Malibu Canyon in his private plane. Gladyce continued to reside in Sacramento raising their two children Joan and Jeff (died of the complications of Type II Diabetes in 2007). Gladyce was active in the Sacramento Community, serving as President of the Sacramento Medical Auxiliary in the late 50's. After the death of Dr. Blunden, she became a realtor with Joe French Realty. She was known around town as 'Glitzy Glady' with her bright red hair and her effusive energy.
Funeral service today Tuesday, Aug 27 at 2 pm at the East Lawn Memorial Park at 43rd and Folsom Blvd.
