DOTY, Marlene Elva (Yeater)
Born on November 24, 1939 in Chico, CA and was called home by our Lord Jesus on November 7, 2013 in Citrus Heights, CA near Sacramento. Marlene is survived by her husband, Darrell Doty, son Dave Doty, daughter Dana Mann, grandchildren Joshua Doty and Sarah Doty, and cherished cousins, nephews, in-laws, and friends. Marlene was preceded in death by her father and mother, Bill and Dorothy Yeater, and her sister, Lois Kohl. Marlene grew up in Chico, CA and was involved in various athletics in school. She met her husband, Darrell, when she was in Jr Hi; they dated for many years, eloped to Reno, and were married in February of 1959 when she was 19. Marlene completed cosmetology school in June before she moved to Salinas in 1959 for a short time while Darrell was serving in the Army at Fort Ord. Soon after, they moved to Sacramento. Darrell started a 35-year career with the State of California, and Marlene worked for several in beauty salons and at home. Marlene was a homemaker and mother, raising her two children. She was known for her sense of humor, her hospitality, the care of her family, and her many friendships. Later in life, she suffered from a degenerative, neurological disorder and spent almost 10 years in an assisted living facility. Many thanks are due to her daughter, Dana, and the staff of Manor Care in Citrus Heights for providing compassionate support for her so faithfully during the years leading up to her death. Her big smile and infectious laugh will be dearly missed. A celebration for family and close friends will be held in her honor on Thursday, November 14.
