JOHNSON, Arthur Daniel
1915 - 2013
Arthur Daniel Johnson was born August 2, 1915 in Elm Creek, Nebraska. He passed away December 23, 2013 in Bakersfield, CA where he had lived since 1986. Art enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and served during WWII and the Korean War. He retired from the Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Following his Army career, he worked as Administrative Assistant to Senator Teale. Among his accomplishments he collected materials to commemorate the memory of Walter Stiern which were placed in the archives of California University at Bakersfield. Along with other interests, Art enjoyed creative writing. He was a member of The Gideons International, MOAA, Masons and 60+. Art was preceded in death by his parents, John Pere Johnson and Augusta Krona Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Lea Johnson; stepdaughter, Kathy Ayotte and family of Fremont, CA; stepsons, Dale Orth and family of Sacramento, CA, Steven Orth and family of Edinburg, Texas.
A brief service with Military Honors will be at 10:00 a.m. on January 7, 2014 at Bakersfield National Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosewood Retirement Center Activity Building, 1301 New Stine Road, Bakersfield, CA 93309. DOUGHTY-CALHOUN-O'MEARA
