HENDRIX, Jr., Paul John
Age 79 years

Paul John Hendrix, Jr. died on February 21, 2014 at St. Vincent's Hospital, Portland, OR. He was born on August 26, 1934 in Sunnyvale, CA to Paul J. Hendrix, Sr. & Anna Waldner Hendrix.

Paul was raised in Hayward, CA. He attended school at Lassen High School in Susanville, CA until 1952 when he left home to strike out on his own. He settled in Roseville, CA and spent his senior year at Roseville High School, graduating in June 1953. Paul started working in the grocery business while still in high school. He met and married Gladys Spina in 1954 in Roseville, CA. He was in the US Army Reserves before his children were born.

In 1960 he moved his family to Fair Oaks, CA while working for Rawson Drug & Sundry Company. He was a Boy Scoutmaster in Fair Oaks, CA for Troop 56 from the late 1960's to the mid 1970's. He was a Boy Scout Silver Bear Award Recipient. His award was presented by Gov. Ronald Reagan at the Awards Ceremony. He moved his family to North Bend, OR in 1978 where he worked for South Coast Dental Lab and Fred Meyers Stores. He and Gladys later moved to Amity, OR where they lived until 2011 when they moved to Vineyard Heights Assisted Living in McMinnville, OR. Before he retired, Paul was an assistant manager and buyer for the McMinnville Food 4 Less. After retirement he worked for Wal Mart in McMinnville. He and Gladys were Proctor Parents for 20 years, working for the Catholic Children Services. Paul was proud to be a Board Member for the Amity Fire District from 1992-2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Anna Hendrix and his grandson, Freddy Hendrix. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Gladys Hendrix; children, Melody Jones (Dale) of Susanville, CA, Fredrick Hendrix of McMinnville, OR, Paul Hendrix, III (Marcie) of Amity, OR, and Lisa Prado of McMinnville, OR; his grand- children, Jana Stanley (Dave), Jeremy Jones (Lena), Shalom Khodabakhshian (Martin), Joanna Smith, Megean Duncan (Andrew), Jaclyn Forsythe (Tucker), Paul Hendrix, IV, Misty Robinson (Tyler), Nicole Turner (Derek), Michael Hendrix (Kristy), Anthony Hamilton (Brittany), Jesse Hendrix, Cara Albers and Shana Ruyle (Scott); his great-grandchildren, Julianne, Roman, Lila, Mya, Avalon, Isabella, Vanessa, Blayne, Logan, Nevaeh, Schyler, Morgan, Jackson, Jimmy, Wyatt, Leanna, Christopher, Austin, Charles and Karlie; and his siblings Evelyn Yonkers (Norm), Paula Moody, and Bernice Neilsen (Ken) of California and James Hendrix (Carol) of Arizona.

His family will remember him for his strong work ethic, his service to his community, his funny sense of humor and for being a wonderful and fun grandpa. He was a great husband and father. He was proud of his Irish-Austrian decent and spent a lot of time researching his genealogy. He loved to walk and hike and spent many summers hiking on the John Muir Trail in California.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Macy & Son, 135 NE Evans, McMinnville, OR. Burial will be at Amity Cemetery, Amity, OR, following the services.
