Carol Thomas Obituary

Carol Thomas was 75 years young when she passed away peacefully at home on September 3, surrounded by her loving family. Born December 11, 1940 to Mildred and Ernest Thomas, she spent her early years between Nashville, TN, and Monroe, NH. However, it was her move to California that shaped and expanded her passion and love of nature and the outdoors. She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BS degree in nursing in 1962. She later earned her public nursing credential and worked as a school nurse in the Sacramento area. Carol's compassionate spirit was evident in all that she did. She was a American Red Cross Volunteer Coordinator, docent at Effie Yeaw Nature Center, and a blind ski instructor. She was an active member of the St. Marks United Methodist Church community and an organizer for their Food Closet. Sharing counsel and offering a shoulder to lean on, she was always a consummate supporter for family and friends. As an ardent outdoor enthusiast, she stayed active biking, hiking, skiing and birding in the Central Valley and Sierras. Her long-time membership in the 49er Ski Club and the activities shared there were a main part of her life. Traveling and camping were among her favorite activities as well, adventuring throughout the West and Canada's mountainous regions. Her passion for life also included precious moments with her many grandchildren. Her activities with them inspired enthusiasm for nature, adventure, exploration and education. Carol is survived by her loving husband, Terry Tice; children, Andey Amata-Kynvi, Carrie Lipe, Brenda Manson, Mark Tice, Toni Arbios, and Terry Stoesser; and siblings, Joan Jacoby, Norman Thomas, and Donald Thomas. Memorial services to celebrate her beautiful life will be held September 24, 2016 at 2:00 pm at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, offerings can be made to Effie Yeaw Nature Center, PO Box 579, Carmichael, CA 95609, or St. Marks Food Closet, 2391 Saint Mark's Way, Sacramento, CA 95864.

Carol was very special in our lives. When Bob first brought me into the 49ers and I knew no one, there was Carol with her friendly smile and warm greeting. This never changed all through the years. We miss you but you will always live in our hearts.

In one form and only one, Carol has passed on.....her spirit lives on for me and for many others whose lives she touched. Our relationship was brief and in those limited meetings, I sensed that she was a true friend. From the "Hi, how are you?" her eyes didn't glaze over to hear an answer and formulate her own story but she truly listened and our conversations were genuine. Her smile is contagious and her spirit is strong - they will linger forever. Arlene Jamar

Carol had a special way of reaching out to others which made them feel as if she really cared for them. She helped members of our ski club as a nurse. Her kindness and compassion was so evident that Jesus would love her for showing love to others. We will miss her.
