Rita Bernier Obituary

Bernier, Rita M. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Thursday, August 6, 2015. Age 95 years. The daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Murphy, Rita was born December 9, 1919 in Tweed, Ontario, Canada. She married Paul F. Bernier on November 30, 1940. He predeceased her September 26, 1969. Rita was employed as an office secretary at Model Aluminum Foundry, later called Bernier Cast Metals. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, a charter member of the League of Catholic Women and the Legion of Mary. Rita was a stalwart defender of the Roman Catholic faith and was proud to be 100% Irish. Surviving are one son, seven daughters and their spouses, Mary and Ron Reimold, Freeland; David and Tammy Bernier, Saginaw; Sue Packer, Bay City; Janet and Robert Trainor, Virginia; Kathy and Jim Golden, Saginaw; Jeanne and Terry Shaw, Hemlock; Pamela Kreh and her husband Nick Veremis, Saginaw; Patricia Coven, Saginaw; 25 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and an angel on the way; many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew MacPhail, and by one sister and five brothers, Cecelia Reynolds, Stan, Frank, Michael, Harold and Msgr. William J. Murphy. The Bernier family would like to thank the Cartwright Hospice Residence and Edgewood Assisted Living for the love and support they have given. Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. There will be a Vigil Service 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Abortion Alternatives or the charity of their choice.
