Wass, Jean - Salamanca  
SALAMANCA - Mrs. Jean Wass, 84, died early Friday morning (Feb. 27, 2015) surrounded by her family, at Olean General Hospital following a long illness. Born May 15, 1930, in Salamanca, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eva Wilson Mighells. She was married Oct. 1, 1949, to Mr. John Wass, who survives. She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, class of 1948, and the former St. Francis Hospital nursing program. Mrs. Wass had been employed at the former Dudley Hotel, former Edlee Restaurant, and was a nurse at the Allegany Nursing Home; Cattaraugus County Nursing Home, Machias; and the Salamanca Nursing Home. She was an avid bowler, and enjoyed gardening and pinochle. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Judy (Jack) Hill of Salamanca, Wendy Boon of Salamanca and Margaret "Stretch" (Robert) Winney of Marshallville, Ohio; a son, John (Dawn) Wass of Saugus, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Pat) Mighells of Salamanca; a sister, Margaret O'Brien of Salamanca; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Raymond Wass; a granddaughter, Chrissy Hill; a great-granddaughter, Leah Goins; a sister, Betty Talbot; and a brother, Charles Mighells. There will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. The O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
