Salamanca - Catherine T. Vecchiarella, 89, of Salamanca, died Thursday evening (Jan. 30, 2014), at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo.
Born June 3, 1924, in Salamanca, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Dominica Oliverio. She was married to Mr. Benny Vecchiarella who predeceased her on June 5, 1987.
She was employed as a crossing guard for the Salamanca Police Department for 44 years prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Vecchiarella was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish.
Surviving are: two sons, Carmen Vecchiarella, of Salamanca, and Vincent Vecchiarella, of Dunkirk; one daughter, Victoria Vecchiarella, of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Aimee Siperek and Carmen Vecchiarella Jr., both of Salamanca, Alexia Zimmerman and Samuel Zimmerman, both of Buffalo; three great-grandchildren, Ellen Siperek, Indigo Wells, both of Salamanca, and Michael Deuschle, of West Seneca; three brothers, Joseph (Donna) Oliverio, Vincent (Angela) Oliverio, all of Salamanca, and Anthony (Nettie) Oliverio, of Reno, Nevada; one sister, Jan Robbins, of West Valley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Cosmo Oliverio.
Friends may attend a memorial visitation at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke, Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, N.Y. on Thursday (Feb. 6, 2014), from 4-7 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish on Friday (Feb. 7, 2014), at 10 a.m. with Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the St. Jude Center, 760 Ellicott St., Buffalo, N.Y. 14203.
