SALAMANCA – Elizabeth J. "Betty" Elsen, 87, of Center Street, died Thursday morning (Nov. 8, 2012), at the Bradford Manor, Bradford, Pa., following a brief illness.
Born on Feb. 5, 1925, in Salamanca, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Allen) Ludwick. She was married on April 8, 1946, to Thomas Elsen, who predeceased her on May 1, 1994.
She was employed as the Assistant District Manager of the Department of Agriculture FHA in Little Valley prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Elsen was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society, Elkdale Country Club, Newman Reading Circle, a founding member of Quadays, and the Mr. & Mrs. Club. She was a long-time volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Bank and the Salamanca Public Library.
Surviving are: three daughters, Elaine M. Elsen and Jean M. (Frank) Pascarella, both of Salamanca, and Kathleen M. Elsen Hobbs of Dunkirk; a son, Joseph T. (Damie) Elsen of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Gregory Spako of Olean, Julie (Coleman) Spako-McMurphy of Austin, Texas, Brian (Marie) Spako of Allegany, Anne Marie Spako of Austin, Texas, Andy J. Pascarella of Buffalo, Logan M. (Ashley) Pascarella of Nashville, Tenn., Brandon C. Hobbs of Pittsburgh, and James T. Elsen of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; three great grandchildren, Ethan McMurphy and August McMurphy, both of Austin, Texas and Juddson T. Spako, of Allegany; nieces and nephews, Stephen (Virginia) Elsen of Ventura, Calif., David (Geri) Elsen of Ellicottville, Dan F. Elsen of Sausalito, Calif. and Mary Kay (Michael) Naimoli of Strafford, Pa.
Friends called at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, N.Y. on Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2012) from 4-7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday morning (Nov. 15, 2012) at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Parish with Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca..
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salamanca Public Library, American Red Cross or Our Lady of Peace Church.
