Helen M. (Sienkiewicz) Hartwig(1929 - 2013)

MANSFIELD, N.Y. – Helen M. Hartwig, of Cross Road, formerly of both Franklinville and Salamanca, died Sunday (March 17, 2013), at her home.
Born May 15, 1929, in Salamanca, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Lukaniuk) Sienkiewicz. On Sept. 12, 1953, in Holy Cross Church in Salamanca, she married Alfred D. Hartwig, who died Oct. 22, 2005.
Mrs. Hartwig earned her nursing degree in Cannonsburg, Pa. and was a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Olean and Mercy Hospital in Buffalo for several years. She was a devoted wife and mother who raised five daughters.
Surviving are Susan (James) Hoover of Tyrone, Pa., Nancy (Dennis) Stefaniak of Rock Glen, Carol (Mark) Heinl of Silver Springs and Wendy (Ronald) Dowdall of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine (Robert) O'Conner of Durham, N.C. and Marian (Donald) Smith of Harrisburg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Terry (John) Thiel in 2011, and four brothers, Leo (Emily) Sienkiewicz, Victor (Helen) Sienkiewicz, Joseph (Jane) Seine and John (Dorothy) Sienkiewicz.
A private gathering will be held in the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home in Franklinville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday (March 20, 2013), at 11 a.m. in the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Ellicottville. Celebrant will be Rev. Ronald Mierzwa, pastor.
Burial will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville, N.Y. Memorials may be made to Home Care & Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, N.Y. 14760.
