SALAMANCA - Mr. Raymond Wass, 58, died unexpectedly Wednesday (April 23, 2014) at Millard Fillmore Hospital, Buffalo.
Born on Dec. 14, 1955, in Salamanca, he was the son of John and Jean Mighells Wass. He was married April 1, 1978, to the former Marcia Hill, who survives.
Ray was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1974. He was employed as a merchandising supervisor for Pepsi for 27 years.
Ray was a member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club, he was involved in youth sports as a coach for 25 years and he was a past president of the Salamanca Booster Club. He played slow-pitch softball and played in the Salamanca alumni football game.
He was an avid hunter, Buffalo Bills fan and Buffalo Sabres fan.
Surviving besides his wife and parents are a daughter, Danielle (Brad) Owens of Salamanca; two sons, Jason (Amy) Wass of Salamanca and Tyler (Julia Giszter) Wass of Salamanca; five grandchildren, Jax and Piper Owens, Kynleigh and Owen Wass and Ray James Wass, all of Salamanca; three sisters, Judy (Jack) Hill of Salamanca, Wendy Boon of Salamanca and Margaret "Stretch" (Robert) Winney of Ohio; a brother, John (Dawn) Wass of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends called from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (April 26, 2014) at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, at which time funeral services were held in the funeral home with the Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish, officiating.
