MANSFIELD - Stephen Montgomery, 40, died Monday (April 28, 2014).
Born April 26, 1974, in Olean, he was the son of Stephen and Pamella Willett Montgomery of Salamanca, who survive. He was married on Sept. 11, 1999, to the former Amanda Loftus, who survives.
He was a graduate of Salamanca High School, class of 1992.
Mr. Montgomery was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force
, serving as a patrol dog handler with the military police. He was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Air Force Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force good Conduct Medal.
He was employed as a corrections officer at the Cattaraugus County Jail in Little Valley. He also trained new corrections officers and participated in the Child Safety Seat Program.
Mr. Montgomery was a member of the Little Valley American Legion Post 531, where he had served as past commander. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed ice fishing and hunting.
Surviving besides his wife and parents, are a sister, Michelle (Joseph) Cammarata of Salamanca; a niece, Kaylei DuPont of Salamanca; and a nephew, Kellen Quigley of Salamanca.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. Burial will be in Little Valley Rural Cemetery, Little Valley.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the National Wild Turkey Youth Hunting Program or the local SPCA.
