NAPOLI – Robert A. Simcick, 85, of Napoli and Fort Pierce, Fla. passed on to Heaven on Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2013), after a brief illness while hospitalized in Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Fla.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1927, in Salamanca, to Anthony and Olive (Williams) Simcick.
Simcick was a member of the (former) First Methodist Church of Salamanca and served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-48. For many years, he served as Scoutmaster of the Little Valley Troop 64 of the Boy Scouts of America, taking a troop of scouts to the 1964 National Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pa. He also served as a coach for the Little Valley Panthers midget football teams in the 1960s. He was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association (Randolph Woodpeckers Chapter) and the American Legion, as well as a life member of the Communications Workers of America.
Simcick retired in 1992 after working 25 years for Bell Telephone Company, followed by 10 years for Little Valley Lumber, Inc., as a mill and cabinet maker, and 10 years for Cattaraugus County, at the county center in Little Valley, as a maintenance mechanic.
Simcick and his wife Judy began their full retirement as snowbirds residing at the Little Valley Rod and Gun Club from spring through fall and wintering in Fort Pierce, Fla.
He is survived by two sons, Robert T. (Joni) Simcick of Napoli and Francis (Michele) Simcick of Cape May Court House, N.J.; five grandchildren, Denise (Ricky) Corcimiglia, Brett Simcick, Kimberly (Simcick) Curtis, Michael Simcick and Keith Simcick; and on great-grandson, Connor Corcimiglia.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Judith (Champlin) Simcick, whom he married May 28, 1949; two sons, Scott and Daniel Simcick; and one grandson, Jarod Simcick of Napoli.
A memorial service will be announced in March with internment following at the Little Valley Rural Cemetery in Little Valley. The family suggests memorials be made to the Little Valley Ambulance Fund.
