COLDSPRING - Erwin "Jack" John, 84, of, South Loop Road, passed away peacefully Saturday (March 15, 2014), at WCA Hospital.

He was born June 2, 1929, in Quaker Bridge, the son of the late Franklin and Mary Nephew John Sr.
Jack attended Salamanca High School and served in the United States Army where he was a military policeman while serving in Germany. Jack retired from Bush Industries in Little Valley and Salamanca. In his earlier years, he had worked at Western Electric in Buffalo for 22 years and also for the Erie & Lackawanna Railroad. He also worked briefly at the Onoville Marina.
He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indian's Beaver Clan, a member of the Laborers Union Local 621 in Olean, Samuel Derby American Legion in Frewsburg and the Randolph American Legion Post 181. Jack enjoyed many interests including, fishing, hunting, gardening, baseball, hockey, lacrosse, and watching all sports and racing on television, especially his beloved New York Yankees.
He is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline John of Gowanda, and Patricia (Barry) Levien of Long Island; two sons, Kevin (Paula) John of Salamanca, and Douglas (Edward Signorile) John of New York, N.Y.; a sister, Terry John of Steamburg; five grandchildren, Wenona, Bernice, and Darcy Scott, and Sara and Jamie Levien.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine and Theo John; and five brothers, Orlan ""Joe"" John, Allen John, Maynard John, Winston John and Franklin ""Obie"" John Jr.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today (March 17, 2014) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday (March 18, 2014). Pastor Kevin John, his son, and John Block, Seneca speaker will officiate. Burial and full military honors will be In the Hillside Haven Cemetery in Steamburg.
