Cecil 'Bob' Carlton
SALISBURY - Dr. Cecil Robert "Bob" Carlton, 77, of Salisbury, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
Born March 31, 1936, in Covington, Ky., he was the son of the late Cecil Mae Carlton and Rosalie Aulick Carlton.
Dr. Carlton graduated from Holmes High School, Georgetown College (BS), Northwestern University (MS) and George Peabody College at Vanderbilt College (PhD).
He was a Mathematics Professor and implemented business computer systems at Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky. He served as the Chairman of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Catawba College from 1981 until retirement.
A member of First Baptist Church of Salisbury, he served in the choir and on the deacon board.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Bradshaw "Libby" Carlton, who he married Jan. 24, 1959; son Kevin Carlton and wife Wendy of Salisbury; daughter Dr. Karen Carlton and husband David Wong of Norwood, Mass.; brothers Richard Carlton and wife Mary of Lexington, Ky., and Ernest Carlton and wife Velma of Tampa, Fla.; grandsons Matthew Wong, Christopher Wong, Benjamin Wong and Samuel Wong, Wesley Carlton, Bradley Carlton and Hunter Carlton.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at Summersett Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
Service: A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 4) at First Baptist Church of Salisbury with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lance officiating. Entombment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Memorials:May be made to the Robert and Elizabeth Carlton Endowment at Catawba College, 2300 W. Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144
