Willie Ellen Trexler
SALISBURY - Mrs. Willie Ellen Trexler, 93, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at her residence.
Mrs. Trexler was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Rowan County, daughter of the late Roy William Trexler and Mary Barger Trexler. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Irene Trexler.
Mrs. Trexler was a 1936 graduate of Rockwell High School, a 1938 graduate of Pfeiffer Junior College, a 1940 graduate of University of North Carolina-Greensboro, a 1947 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a Master's Degree, and continued further graduate work at N.C. State University in 1950.
Mrs. Trexler retired in 1981 after 41 years of employment in public education. She worked as a teacher in Landis for three years and Gastonia City Schools for seven years. She was a Supervisor of Instruction in Whiteville City Schools for five years and Lexington City Schools for 26 years.
She was a member of a number of professional educational organizations, and served as an officer at local and district levels. She was a member of NCAE, NEA, Division of Supervisors, Delta Kappa Gamma-Epsilon and Gamma Alpha Chapters, and Retired School Personnel.
She was also a lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, where she served several times on the Church Council, taught Adult Sunday School Class for many years and co-authored Church History. She was active in all phases of Church Work.
Mrs. Trexler is survived by a number of cousins and her caregivers, Helen Eddleman, Elaine Livengood, Patsy Yarborough, Pam Bunton, Kay Clark, Navonda Ritchie and Sue Misenheimer.
Visitation: The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service on Friday, Jan. 25 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Service: The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church conducted by Interim Pastor Darrell Norris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials: May be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 2570 St. Peters Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
