Andrew 'Wayne' Beck
COOLEEMEE - Andrew Wayne Beck, 89, of Holt Street, died on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Born in Davie County on April 1, 1923, he was the son of the late Nathan M. Beck and Gertie Belle Keller Beck. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II
in the East Indies, New Guinea and in the Southern Philippines Liberation. He was a member of VFW
Post 1119 and American Legion Post 54 in Cooleemee.
He retired from the textile industry and had also served as custodian at Cooleemee Elementary School and Victory Baptist Church, of which he was a member.
Wayne loved his family, church, friends and school family. He touched many lives with his gentleness and smile and will be missed by many. He was a professional "piddler" who could always find something to work on.
He was proud of serving as Grand Marshal of Cooleemee's 4th of July parade this past summer, thanks to the community and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Owens Beck, in 2006; two brothers, Louie Fields Beck and Lawrence Hayden Beck; and a sister, Helen Beck Poole.
He is survived by a son, Jeffrey W. (Donna) Beck of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Lana (Matt) Leonard of Sophia and Drew Beck of Mt. Juliet,Tenn.
Service and Visitation: A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church in Cooleemee with Rev. Shelby Harbour officiating. Burial will be in Legion Memorial Park with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard and the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service in Mocksville.
