Berl E. Bruce, Sr.

CONCORD - Berl E. Bruce, Sr., 70, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his home after battling an illness for several years.

Berl was born Jan. 23, 1944 in Franklin Springs, Ga., the son of the late Isaac Eudonald Bruce and Elkansas Royston Bruce. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and married his wife, Robin on April 21, 1976.

Berl was employed with Southern Industrial for many years in boiler sales and services. Later, he continued in the field as self-employed. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam Conflict. His family fondly remembers his love of fishing and enjoying NASCAR racing. His main love was spending quality time with all of his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, William Bruce and Dick Bruce.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Cox Bruce; his children, Odelia Harrel and husband Scott of Concord, Berl E. Bruce II and wife Jennifer of Concord, Joshua Bruce of Concord, Chandra Bruce of Kannapolis and Loudera Crum and husband Randy of China Grove; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Service and Visitation:The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, officiated by Dr. Zachary Sizemore. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis with military honors by the North Carolina National Guard and the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 at the funeral home. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time.
