Carl S. King

RALEIGH - Carl Stanley King, of Raleigh, died on June 13, 2013.

Carl was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Salisbury to the late Clayborne Stanford King and Vivian Kester King. He retired from the Army in 1983 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served as an ordained Lutheran pastor for several churches in North Carolina before entering on active duty in the Army. His military career as an Army Chaplain took him to seven Army Bases in the United States, two tours in Korea and one tour in Vietnam.

Upon retirement from the Army, he was employed by the Arizona Department of Corrections and was an investigator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Mr. King is survived by, his wife of 58 years, Harriette Collins King (formerly of Hickory); his daughter, Elizabeth C. King; a brother; two brothers-in-law and their wives; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia L. King; and his parents.

Service: A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 20 at 2 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh NC 27609. Inurnment will be at Salisbury National Cemetery on Friday, June 21 at 1 p.m. with full military honors.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
