Charles 'Speedy' Shepard

SALISBURY - Charles "Speedy" Shepard, 86, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at his residence.

He was born April 15, 1928, in Robeson County, a son of the late Everett Lee Shepard Sr. and Donniebell Shepard.

Speedy was educated in the schools of Robeson County. After graduation he entered the U.S. Air Force. He was very proud of his children who also are U.S. Air Force veterans.

Speedy was an accomplished fiddle player and musician. He made fiddles for several musicians including Rascal Flatts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Claire Cipolli Shepard; one brother, Everett Lee Shepard Jr.; and two sisters, Lucille Hester and Bobbie Lee.

Left to cherish his memory are son Charles Shepard Jr. of Chester, Va.; daughter Mary Frances Vaessen of Waukegan, Ill.; two grandsons, Josh Shepard of Salisbury and Eric Vaessen of Waukegan; and two granddaughters, Holly Vaessen stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Florida and Laura Vaessen of Waukegan.

The family will have a private celebration of life at a later time.
