Eddie Marie Davis White

SALISBURY - Mrs. Eddie Marie Davis White, age 83, of Mooresville Road, passed on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born on May 19, 1929, in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Franklin and Georgeana Thompson Davis. Educated in the Salisbury-Rowan County public school system, she was a graduate of J.C. Price High School, Class of 1946, and attended Livingstone College.

Mrs. White was an active and supportive member of Millers Chapel AME Zion Church, where she served as the Home Mission President, as a willing worker and wherever she was needed. In 2002, she was named Outstanding Layperson for the Salisbury District.

She was also a member of J.C. Price Alumni Association and was involved with the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl White Jr.; daughters Anne Marie White and Barbara Jean White Okoh; sister Marian Willette Davis Young.

She is survived by her loving children, Michael White (Annette) of Landis, Kaye White of Hampton, Va., Earlene Sifford (Jerry) of Salisbury, James Earl White, III of Salisbury, Mary Hairston (Albert) of Walnut Cove, Donald White (of the home) Salisbury, and Ronald White (Vickie) of Cleveland; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; cousins Harvey Davis, Perry Leazer and Harry Bennett Leazer; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation and Funeral Services: Sunday, March 17 at the A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc. with the visitation at 3 p.m. and funeral following at 3:30 p.m. The interment will take place on Tuesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at the Salisbury Historical National Cemetery, Military Avenue. The Rev. Hezekiah Lawson, pastor of Millers Chapel AME Zion Church, is in charge of services.
