Elaine Sharpe Barnes

Elaine Sharpe Barnes SPENCER - Elaine Sharpe Barnes, 85, of Spencer, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. Born May 15, 1920, in Davidson County, Mrs. Barnes was a daughter of the late Garney and Cora Sharpe. Educated in Davidson County, she was a graduate of Churchland High School and Rowan Technical Institute. A licensed practical nurse, she was employed for many years at Rowan Memorial Hospital and also worked as a private duty nurse. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 18 years. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth A. Barnes, whom she married Feb. 19, 1939; son Ted Barnes and wife Phyllis of Salisbury; daughter Kenna Bayer and husband Elliott of Roanoke, Va.; sisters Glenna Lanier of Dobson and Willie Ruth Leonard of Lexington; grandchildren Kecia Barnes of Salisbury and Brie Fritts of Lexington; and great-grandchildren Jake and Joey Waddell, Gabrielle and Alex Smith and Maddi Fritts. Visitation : Visitation will be from 7-8:30 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home. Service : A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Oakdale Baptist Church, where the body will lie-in-state for 30 minutes before the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard Gross, minister of Oakdale Baptist Church, and the Rev. Robert Heard, minister of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be at Forest Hill Memorial Park, Lexington.
