SALISBURY - Elmer William Hayden, 83, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at his residence.

He was born in McDowell County, W. Va., the son of the late James Hayden and the late Cynthia Patterson Hayden.

Mr. Hayden was educated in the McDowell County West Virginia Schools and was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked in electronics as a Master Tube Technician and later retired as a coal miner in West Virginia.

Mr. Hayden was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Ikes, W. Va. and of the Union Mine Workers Association.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Damron Hayden.

Those left to cherish his memories are sons, Kenneth Hayden (Betty) and James Hayden (Sharon), both of Salisbury; daughter, Kathy Riffe (Gene) of Ikes Fork, W. Va.; three sisters, Ella Mae Fowler of Welch, W. Va., and Anne Garthwaite and Dorothy Steele, both of Johnson City, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, conducted by his son, Kenneth Hayden.
